Mary Piccioli and Samantha (Sam) Veeder presented on Financial Aid in the New Normal. This session was part of the NACUBO Annual Meeting's "Serving the Student" track.
About this presentation: During the most recent recruitment cycles, a number of trends have emerged or accelerated. The number of students applying for aid has increased; attending a community college has become more socially and educationally acceptable, and in some cases is an economic imperative; families believe it is most appropriate to appeal the first aid offer; and state aid programs are being cut. Many institutions saw their discount rates increase without corresponding enrollment increases. It is critical for institutions to have a clear understanding of the changes in the way their families are paying for college. This presentation focuses on both data driven and operational elements of an effective aid strategy that institutions should consider as they deal with the “new normal.” It includes examples of data analysis such as table analysis, predictive modeling and simulation tools. Operational approaches are also discussed.
- Learn what data analysis should be conducted to better understand the price sensitivity of your students.
- Gain an understanding of the changes in the way your students and families are paying for college.
- Explore operational approaches that can better position your institution to adapt to calls for price transparency and the changing transfer market.
