On December 2 Mary Piccioli presented Tough Times Call for Strategic (Financial Aid) Measures. The session focused on both data-driven and operational elements of an effective financial aid strategy that institutions should consider as they deal with the “new normal”.
About this presentation: During the most recent recruitment cycles, a number of trends have emerged or accelerated. The number of students applying for aid has increased; attending a community college has become more socially and educationally acceptable, and in some cases is an economic imperative; families believe it is most appropriate to appeal the first aid offer; and state aid programs are being cut. Many institutions saw their discount rates increase without corresponding enrollment increases.
It is critical for institutions to have a clear understanding of the changes in the way their families are paying for college. Mary's presentation included examples of data analysis such as table analysis, predictive modeling and simulation tools. Operational approaches were also discussed.
